Channel Modelling and Efficient Time-Domain Simulation of a Harmonic Transponder Tag

2017
Recent research demonstrate the feasibility of spread spectrum techniques in a harmonic radar context. A mathematical model for an existing harmonic transponder tag is developed to facilitate the evaluation of these techniques. This is done using a Taylor series approximation, which is then verified using laboratory measurements. The measurements show that the effective isotropic radiated power of the harmonic reflections is proportional to the square of the incident power density. Finally, a time-domain simulation of the transponder tag in a typical radar channel with non-idealities is described. To render the computation more efficient, a complex baseband method is developed, which takes the transponders' memoryless nonlinearity into account.
