Development of Processes and Characterization of Ferro Magnetic Materials for Manufacture of Transformer Core and Motors for Higher Efficiency

2018
Abstract Improvement of efficiency of motors and transformers will go a long way in reducing power consumption. This can be achieved by improving the processes which the steel material will pass through and selection of suitable materials for proper design. This can be achieved by reducing the iron losses in electrical machines by improving the permeability (μr). Increasing the value of relative permeability leads to obtaining higher flux densities at lower ampere turns of magnetization which in turn reduces magnetizing current. Process improvements leading to lower power losses per kg leads to overall improvement in efficiency. It is proposed to study relative permeability and Watt loss/KG of electrical steels and correlate them with various parameters of steel sheets such as composition, grain size, deformation, rolling parameters and direction of rolling with respect to direction of magnetization .
