Design of multi-beam antennas with Mu and Epsilon-Near-Zero metamaterials

2012
Multi-beam antenna is a special device which is capable of radiating electromagnetic energies in different directions. In this paper, a Mu and Epsilon-Near-Zero (MENZ) metamaterial multi-beam antenna based on two-dimensional LC network is designed. The equivalent node voltage distribution matrix of this device is derived and its performance is simulated. We show that the radiation characteristic of the antenna is independent on the position of the current source as long as it is located in the MENZ region. The number of the beams and the radiation characteristic of the antenna can be flexibly adjusted by designing the shape and size of the MENZ region.
