U.S. Army`s experience with the PINS chemical assay system

The portable isotopic neutron spectroscopy (PINS) chemical assay system is as nondestructive evaluation tool developed at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory to identify the contents of munitions and chemical storage containers. PINS employs neutron radiation as a probe of the chemical elements within a container or munition. The use of PINS by the U.S. Army is described.
