Perceived satisfaction when using an app designed to improve control in moderate-severe asthma patients

2018
Aim: To analyze patient satisfaction after one year of use of a mobile self-management daily app (symptoms and maximum flow value) designed specifically to improve control. Methods: We designed a free app for both Android and IOS system. Doctor has to subscribe the patient profile and make the self-care plan. There is connection between patient and doctor. We analyzed the degree of satisfaction at 3 and 12 months (self-administered survey). The survey measure the utility perceived by the patient (questions 1 and 2), the difficulty of handling and filling in (3 and 4), internet and app connection problems (5 and 6) with a maximun of 30points. We also measured adherence (each patient records number/theoretical annual records number). Results: 16 patients have finished the study in November 2017 (62%women, mean age of 69.2 years, 75% severe, mean ACT test 17.4). The average score of satisfaction was 24.8 points at 3 months and 26.5 at 12 months. Figure2 shows every question score and differences depending on adherence Global adherence reported was 78% [38-99%]. 75% of patients have more than 70% of adherence. Conclusion: We found a good level of satisfaction and it gets even better after 12 months of follow up. The internet and “app” connection was the main problem reported. We have a good adherence, close to 80%. Patients with lower adherence showed, although slightly lower, also a good level of satisfaction.
