The invention provides a method and a system for processing caption information in a video monitoring system. The method comprises the following steps that: a client acquires a monitoring video code stream and acquires caption information from a front-end management module; the client converts the caption information into character matrixes; and the client superimposes the character matrixes to the video code stream to generate monitoring images with captions. The system comprises a video monitoring platform and the client, wherein the video monitoring platform is used for generating the caption information; the client is used for receiving the caption information and converting the caption information into the character matrixes; the client is further used for superimposing the character matrixes of the caption information to the video code stream so as to generate the monitoring images with the captions. The technical scheme can ensure that the caption information is clear, and cannot be influenced by network transmission.
