Reproducción y genética del caracol terrestre “Helix aspersa”

La cria de caracoles ha surgido como una excelente oportunidad de negocio para paises Latinoamericanos, como Colombia. La helicicultura moderna debe tener en cuenta la fisiologia, reproduccion, genetica, nutricion y produccion del caracol para poder ser competitivos en los mercados internacionales que son los mas importantes y llamativos en este sector. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de esta revision es recopilar el contenido de investigaciones realizadas en el ambito nacional e internacional con respecto a la reproduccion del caracol Helix aspersa, debido a que los indices reproductivos se relacionan directa y estrechamente con los indices productivos de toda explotacion helicicola; siendo esta de gran ayuda para las empresas que buscan una mayor eficacia y eficiencia, para poder competir en los mercados internacionales, que son cada vez mas exigentes. La reproduccion del caracol Helix aspersa se ve influenciada por el morfotipo o raza, tamano de los caracoles, alimentacion, epoca del ano, densidad (numero de animales por caja), fotoperiodo, entre otras; siendo estos puntos clave, para lograr mejores y homogeneas producciones en una explotacion. Abstract Snail farming has become an excellent business opportunity for Latin American countries like Colombia. Modern heliciculture must keep in mind the snail’s physiology, reproduction, genetics, nutrition and production in order to be competitive in international markets which are the most important and appealing markets in this sector. Therefore, the goal of this review is to compile the contents of national and international research regarding the reproduction of the Helix aspersa snail, due to the fact that their reproductive indexes are directly and closely related to the production indexes of snail exploitation. This is a great help for companies seeking greater effectiveness and efficiency in order to compete in international markets, which are becoming more and more demanding. The reproduction of Helix aspersa snails are influenced by the morphotype or race, the size of the snails, feeding, time of year, density (number of animals per box), photo-period, among others; and these are key issues for achieving better and more homogenous productions in an explotation.
