The invention provides a top cover opening method and system of a wagon. The method includes the steps of firstly, detecting the position of a carriage of the wagon; secondly, when the carriage is driven to a preset top detaching position, in the driving process of the wagon, detaching a top cover of the carriage, wherein the preset cover detaching position is in front of a carriage loading position; thirdly, when the carriage is driven to a preset cover assembling position, in the driving process of the wagon, installing the top cover on the carriage, wherein the preset cover assembling position is located behind the carriage loading position. The opening and closing of the top cover of the carriage are completed in the driving process of the wagon, the continuous loading of the wagon isrealized, and the wagon loading efficiency is improved; the requirement for loading a vehicle through a loader can be met, and environment pollution and energy loss are avoided.
