Edward Baugh: The Critic as Mediator

2016
Edward Baugh, Emeritus Professor of English at the University of the West Indies, Mona, is a distinguished Caribbean academic, poet, and critic, whose pioneering work in modern Caribbean literary criticism has addressed every genre of Caribbean literature as well as regional aesthetic and theoretical concerns. An internationally recognized authority on Carib bean poetry in general and on Derek Walcott in particular, Baugh's critical output over four decades reflects the vicissitudes of Caribbean postcolonial aesthetic and theoretical concerns regarding the institutional function of literature and criticism.
