The behavior of PTFE-Compounds within tribological friction contacts was detailed investigated in the last decades. Ascertained design recommendations for the dimensioning of PTFE-compounds based tribological systems are normally difficult to extract from literature. Using PTFE-compounds in industrial applications like for piston ring sealings the selection of adequate fillers and materials as well as the surface properties of the counterpart material plays a significant role for the functionality of the friction contact under the different environmental conditions. Against this backdrop this work makes a contribution to the comprehension of the functionality of glass fiber reinforced PTFE-compounds, their friction and wear behavior in contact with different counterpart materials and surface topographies under inert gas atmosphere.
