The extraction of DCX and its cytotoxic activity to tumor celles in vitro

The cell wall of Serratia marcescens contains a large amount of DCX, Treated with a mixture of different organic solvents, the bacteria could yield DCX up to 8.5%, The cytotoxicity assay showed that a small amount of DCX(2-4ng/ml)could kill SMMC-7721, Hela, KM_(3)and So strain cells rapidly(3-4h), but DCX did not have obvious effect on 3T3 strain cells and murine hepatocytes. The result meant that DCX could kill tumor cells directly and was a selective anti-tumor preparation.
