Preparation of Pt thin film electrodes using the Pechini method

2006
Abstract This paper presents the preparation and characterization of Pt electrodes obtained using the polymeric precursor method on Ti substrates. In the present case, this route leads to the formation of metallic platinum rather than the formation of platinum oxide. The route is based on the dissolution of hexachloride platinum acid (H 2 PtCl 6 ) and citric acid (CA) in ethylene glycol (EG) at different molar ratios. The characterization was accomplished by cyclic voltammetry in two electrolyte solutions (0.1 M HClO 4 and 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 ) and X-ray diffraction analysis. In order to measure the effect of the preparation variables on the electrode surface areas a factorial design 2 3 was used. The voltammetric results showed a typical electrochemical profile for a Pt electrode in both electrolyte solutions used. In addition, the X-ray analysis showed the typical Pt pattern peaks.
