un SUMMARY In the goal to determine the etiologies of the hepatomegalies, the authors led a transverse survey in the two services of internal medicine of thr Hospital of the Friendship during one period of 10 months. Hundred fifty two patients hospitalised for hepatomegaly have been included in this survey of which 63 % of men and 37 % o f women. The middle age of the patients was 42 years with a minimum of 17 years and a maximum of 76 years. The etiologic diagnosis was based on the clinic, the biopsy for exam anatomopathologic. Of this survey he/it comes out again that the main etiologies of the hepatomegalies are represented by : the inflammatory lesions of the liver recovered in 38,8 % among whiche they recovered 16;4 % of ccase of hepatic amibiase, 13,8 % of case of hepatiti s veral B and 2 % of case of bilharziose hepatosplenic ; the tumors lesions of the liver occupied 25,6 % among the etiologies of the hepatomegalies with 11,2 % of carcinoma hepatocellular due to the virus of hepatitis, 7,2 % o f chronic lymphoid leukaemia, 2 % of secondary cancer of the liver and 5,2 % of indeterminate reason. They cirrhoses of the liver were present 15,1 % with 9,2 % of the cases of cirrhosis post B hepatitic, 4 % of post-ethylic cirrhosis and 4,6 % of cirrhosis of indeterminate reasons. They nnoted 8,5 % of the cases of tubercular pericarditi s and 6,6 % of congestive myocardiopathy.To the total, hepatitis viral B was implied in 34,2 % of the etiologies of the hepatomegalies, posing a problem of public health.
