Metronidazole for Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Future potential treatment applications
2020
Dear editor, an increasing number of Next Generation 16S sequencing (NGS) studies on the cutaneous microbiome have contributed to a better and broader understanding of the pathogenesis of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)1 . Interestingly, the majority of studies point to a core microbiome in HS lesions (both inflamed nodules and dermal tunnels) dominated by anaerobic gram-negative bacteria (e.g. Prevotella spp. and Porphyromonas spp.) that were not previously detected in HS using traditional culturing.
