8th volume in a series of scientific reports presenting the annual results of the Demographic Surveillance System in the Matlab area (Bangladesh). The reduced surveillance area for 1978 was made up of 149 villages. Background of the Surveillance system is provided in an introductory section. Other sections cover the methodology used in the reduced census and discuss the results. Appendices include copies of the household census form the coding schemes and the census results tabulated by village.
