WITH REFERENCE TO THE "METHOD OF ANALYSIS OF ELASTICALLY SUPPORTED SLABS" AN INFINITELY LONG SLAB IS STUDIED. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION OF AN ELASTICALLY SUPPORTED SLAB, MAKING REFERENCE TO WORKS OF EXPERTS IN THE FIELD SUCH AS HAPPE, LEWE, WESTERGAARD AND SCHLEICHER. FOLLOWING THIS THE MORE SIMPLE APPLICATION OF EQUATIONS IS DISCUSSED INCLUDING AMERICAN INVESTIGATIONS, WHICH LED TO EMPIRICAL METHODS OF MEASUREMENT CONSIDERING VARIOUS INDIVIDUAL INFLUENCES AND EFFECTS. FINALLY THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES IN DETAIL HIS SIMPLE APPROXIMATE CALCULATION USING RADIALLY SPANNING WEDGE-SHAPED STRIPS FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE PENETRATION OF THE SLAB UNDER A LOAD P. FINALLY THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS AND CONCRETE SHRINKAGE ARE DISCUSSED.
