PRECAST CONSTRUCTION KEEPS CULVERT ON TRACK

1992
It is shown that although there is never a good time to close a 22,000 vpd (vehicles per day) arterial, disadvantages can be minimized by using a tight construction schedule, good detour, and precast units for construction. To replace a double-barrel culvert in Essex County, New Jersey, the design of the replacement and the traffic plan was such that it would cause the least disruption to the motoring public, parkland, and freshwater wetlands, and would be cost effective. A twin precast concrete culvert with basic waterway openings was chosen. The entire culvert was constructed with precast sections, and placed during the 14-day closure of the road.
