The maternal-child health program of Banderas (B).

1973
This hypothetical case study was prepared as a basis for class discussion on how to improve supervision reports to facilitate a 2-way channel of communication. In this case study the Director of a maternal-child health care program asks the assistance of a member of a research staff of a management institute regarding supervision problems. The latter conducts field interviews with a medical supervisor nursing supervisor the head of nursing and a supervisor of education. Most agree that the paperwork involved is a drain on the time of staff who would prefer to spend it with the patient; most agree that the best form of motivation of staff is praise and recognition for performance which is well done. Checklists from the central office were often considered inappropriate to the real function of the staff and clinic. The importance of good supervision in maintaining efficiency and morale was noted by many.
