FATORES CAUSAIS ASSOCIADOS À FRATURA DE FÊMUR EM IDOSOS

2021
ABSTRACT: Femoral fracture in the elderly represents a serious problem within the context of public health, due to the high economic costs of treatment and its consequences, as well as the high rate of morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the causes of femoral fracture in elderly patients. And the specifics are: to identify the factors associated with femur fracture in elderly patients and to identify methods to prevent this damage. METHODOLOGY: This is a descriptive, exploratory, quantitative, cross-sectional study carried out at the Ortopedica unit of a philanthropic hospital in the city of Aracaju-SE, during the months of August to December 2017. This project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee with the CAAE number: 74227217.9.0000.5371. RESULTS: A sample of 52 elderly individuals, older than 60 years, who were hospitalized due to femur fracture were used. The study had a predominance of 70.4% of the female patients, whose main cause that led to the fracture of the femur was the fall of the height itself (46.2%). CONCLUSION: The study provided a better understanding of the factors associated with femoral fracture in elderly patients, the methods to prevent this damage and the types of fractures most common identified within this age group.
