The wet compression technology for complete gas turbine engine

2017
This paper examined the outcomes of wet compression on the performance of 3-stage compressor, combustor and turbine of the gas turbine engine. Complete numerical simulation of the gas turbine was carried out using computational Huid dynamic software. The developed model permits to examine the effects of wet compression techniques, estimates the fuel consumption, power and efficiency gain of the gas turbine engine operating at high temperature and low humid regions. Injecting water droplets at the inlet of the gas turbine engine increases the compression and turbine expansion ratios which provides more work to the system, reduces the amount of fuel consumption by 3.75 percent, drop the compressor, combustor and turbine outlet temperatures by 9.5 percent, 7.3 percent and 7.0 percent respectively and increases the compressor efficiency by 5.85 percent. The results obtained have shown significant effect on the compressor performance, combustion process and turbine work.
