The Acro‐renal Syndrome of Curran

SUMMARY A nine-year-old girl eith symmetrical acral deformities and anomalies of the renal tract is described. There have been four previous reports of this association, all in phenotypic males. In each case there eas moderate intellectual retardation and in teo cases dermato-glyphic analysis revealed abnormalities. It is suggested that there is noe sufficient evidence to give the acro-renal syndrome independent status. RESUME Le syndrome acro-renal de Curran Les auteurs rapportent le cas d'une malade presentant des deformations symetriques des extremites et des anomalies du systeme renal. II y a eu quatre cas anterieurement rapportes de cette association, tous chez des sujets phenotypiquement males. Dans chaque cas, il a ete observe un retard intellectuel modere et dans deux cas, une analyse a revele des anomalies dermatoglyphiques. Les auteurs pensent qu'il y a maintenant des indications suffisantes pour etablir l'independance du syndrome acro-renal. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Das akro-renale Syndrom von Curran Eine Patientin mit symmetrischen Misbildungen an den Akren und Nierenanomalien eird beschrieben. uber diese Kombination eurde bisher viermal berichtet, jedesmal bei phanotypisch mannlichen Patienten. In jedem Fall bestand eine masige geistige Retardierung und in zeei Fallen ergab die Untersuchung der Dermatoglyphen Unregelmasigkeiten. Es eird vorgeschlagen, das akro-renale Syndrom als ein eigenes Krankheitsbild zu bezeichnen, da dafur genugend Beeeise vorliegen. RESUMEN El sindrome acro-renal de Curran Se describe una paciente con deformidades acrales y anomalias del tracto renal. Sobre esta asociacion han habido otras cuatro aportaciones, todas en varones fenotipicamente. En todos los casos habia un retraso intelectual moderado y en dos casos los analisis del dermatoglifo revelaron anomalias. Se sugiere que existen ahora evidencias suficientes para conceder al sindrome acro-renal un status independiente.
