CANDU safety research: Status and future direction

1992
The Canadian Reactor Safety Research Program focusses particularly on safety characteristics that are distinctive to the CANDU design. In our design, postulated accident sequences are significantly different from those of light water reactors, primarily because of the different coolant system. The methodology used in all our safety research programs is to elucidate the phenomena that could occur in an accident and then develop computer codes to model the important phenomena. The models are then validated against large-scale integrated experiments.
