Viability of using additive manufacturing for horn antennas fed with empty substrate integrated waveguide

2019
Substrate integrated waveguides reduce the losses when compared to traditional planar transmission lines, while maintaining their low losses, low profile, and low cost manufacturing. The losses have been further reduced by partially or fully removing the dielectric, and many microwave devices have been successfully implemented with empty substrate integrated waveguides, including H-plane horn antennas. The directivity of the horn antenna can be increased using 3D pyramidal horns, and sacrificing the low profile. However, the low cost can be maintained by using additive manufacturing. In this work the viability of using additive manufacturing for two horn antennas fed with empty substrate integrated waveguide is studied.
