RIB AREA OF HIGH BOND REINFORCEMENT

This short article describes transverse and longitudinal ribbing on reinforcement bars, which provide high bond strength. Equations are included for the design of transverse ribbing, its shape and spacing, which is illustrated by diagrams. This design, using a projected area, covers type 2 reinforcement in BS4449 and BS4461. The geometrical properties of transverse ribbing recommended by ISO standard euronorm 82-79 sheet 2 and din488 part 3, using a relative rib area, are tabulated. (TRRL)
