Apparatus and method to prevent free flow in an infusion line

2001
An apparatus to prevent free flow system through an infusion, the apparatus comprising: an infusion set (604) formed by a tube (642) having an occluder circular cross section (634) disposed therein wherein the occluder (634) is located in a portion of the tube (642) and has an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the tube (642) thereby making the portion of the tube (642) to stretch on the occluder (634), and wherein the tube (642) can be radially expanded so that the compressed tubing (642) causes a portion of the tube (642) extends away from the occluder (634) to form and a flow path such that the withdrawal of the compression causes the tube (642) adjacent the occluder (634) to collapse onto the occluder (634) and closing the flow path; and a channel (630); characterized in that the channel (630) is generally U-shaped with a rounded bottom, the channel (630) being thus configured to receive the infusion set (604) such that the infusion (604) is pressed against occluder half (634) on its end facing the rounded bottom to engage the occluder in the rounded bottom such that one fluid flow channel (646) is formed on the opposite side.
