A low power CMOS temperature sensor frontend for RFID tags

2018
A CMOS temperature sensor fronted with a dual slope analog to digital converter (DSADC) for thermal monitoring is implemented in GlobalFoundries' 45 nm CMOS SOI technology. The sensor has 8 transistors to minimize chip area and its supply voltage can be scaled down to 0.6V to reduce the power consumption by 70%. The ADC is also optimized for small area with a measured resolution of 8 bits and a sampling rate of 30 kS/s. The whole fronted including the amplifier and analog multiplexer consumes on 34 μW under a 1V supply with measured temperature range from 20°C to 100°C and +0.7/−1°C error.
