Registration of melting and crystallization process of synthetic MgLi3,5 alloy with use of ATND method

2011
Contemporary requirements, which face machinery components and structures effect in necessity of searching after, and implementation of a new materials having significant effect on improvement of product quality, minimization of its dimensions and mass, as w ell as assuring reliability in operational conditions. M agnesium alloys belong to the lightest metallic structural materials and hence, are very attractive in such applications as automotive and aerospace industries, among others. Furthermore, addition of lithium, that has density of 0,53 g/cm 3 , reduces density of the resulting M g-Li alloys to the same level as polymeric materials. Therefore, M g-Li alloys become an alternative material assuring low density, improved ductility and corrosion resistance. The paper presents an attempt of implementation of the ATND method to monitoring of crystallization process of synthetic M gLi3,5 alloy. Investigated magnesium alloys were produced in the Foundry Research Institute. Registration of melting and crystallization processes was made with use of the ATND method. Results of the preliminary tests are shown in a graphical form.
