Effect of the chemical modification of the filler surface on the structure and permeability of a composite film based on polyvinyl chloride

2015
Composite films based on polyvinyl chloride and nanodispersed Al2O3 [initial and modified by successive treatment with POCl3 or SiCl2(CH3)2 and H2O vapors] were synthesized. As shown by AFM examination, the filler in the course of the film preparation is mainly distributed in near-surface zones of the polymer. The permeability of the composite film to water vapor varies depending on the chemical composition of the aluminum oxide surface. The diffusion characteristics of the synthesized polyvinyl chloride composite were evaluated from the standpoint of the diffusion-sorption permeability theory within the framework of the two-phase model of the polymer structure.
