Off-the-shelf Artificial Intelligence and Qualitative Research - integrating IBM Alchemy Language in HCI research methodology

The recent attempts to automate user behavior analysis well depicts the practical necessity of speedy, on the spot, qualitative analysis methods. Moreover, NLP-powered text-mining software, open for general use, are increasing. Therefore, this paper aims to enhance the efficiency of qualitative analysis, through the use of off-the-shelf artificial intelligence software. We propose a new qualitative research methodology integrating IBM Alchemy Language, and moreover, share the practical guidelines obtained from 2 application case studies. Moreover, by conducting a user study, we tested the feasibility of the methodology. Further on, we trigger discussion and hopes to contribute in vital discussion upon future human-machine collaboration research methods.
