Endoscopic Imaging Technology

1994
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy has evolved from semiflexible instruments of large diameter to a generation of high-resolution electronic and fiberoptic instruments of narrow diameter with many diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. Resolution and color fidelity are important considerations in endoscopy, and advances in technology have resulted in substantial improvements in both over the last decade. Enhancements in electronic imaging techniques and developments in networking will make image transfer and shared data easier in the coming years, and image processing may help refine diagnostic endoscopy.
