THE PRAGMATICS OF CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK IN ONLINE CLASS

2020
This study focuses on how corrective feedback is uttered in online classes. The transition from traditional face-to-face learning to the online one requires teachers to make adjustments to fit learning objectives. The adjustments fall not only in the area of teaching technique and class management but also in terms of how feedback is given. Through this descriptive study, the researcher intends to analyze how teachers utter corrective feedback in their classes. The data are taken from three online classes in the English Department of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. The Pragmatics approach applied to analyze the data is focused on how speech acts are implemented into six types of corrective feedback: explicit correction, recast, clarification request, meta-linguistic signal, elicitation, and repetition. The results of the research are hoped to contribute to the research on pragmatics and learning in the age of pandemics.
