The Affect Situations and Learning Behaviors of Test Takers in National E-College English Test B

2011
This paper adopts methods like literature reviews, questionnaire and personal reviews to investigate 966 test takers of the national E-College English Test B held in December 2010,in attempt to study their affect and learning situation,in the light of linguistic test washback theories. Results show that:1) The test exerts negative influence on the subjects' motion and learning behavior;2) the more failures a test taker experiences, the greater negative impact the test produces;while 3) significant discrepancies are detected between TV university and E-colleges in dimensions of their English proficiency self-assessment,learning difficulty and classroom instruction evaluation;4)male and female students display their difference in their learning difficulty; 5) no significant difference is revealed between science and art majors. The paper finally proposes that all parties concerned shall take concrete measures to reduce the unwelcome effects brought about by this large scale high-stake test.
