Relationship of vitamin A to protein biosynthesis in the animal organism in the normal state and under the action of ionizing radiation. [Rats; x radiation; retinol]

1975
X radiation was administered to rats receiving a vitamin A-deficient diet and to control rats. The membrane-bound polyribosomes and the enzyme fraction with tRNA were isolated from the epithelium of the small intestine. Retinol, introduced in vitro, intensified the incorporation of leucine into the proteins of the cell-free system. Results of the experiment showed that the exclusion of vitamin A disrupts protein synthesis in the intestinal mucosa, while the introduction of retinol increased biosynthesis. (HLW)
