Proximal femoral nail anti-rotation internal fixation in the treatment of the elderly unstable femoral intertrochanteric fracture

2013
Objective To investigate the proximal femoral nail anti-rotation(PFNA) internal fixation effect in treatment of elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures. Methods 36 cases of elderly unstable intertrochanteric fractures were treated with PFNA internal fixation. Results All the patients obtained 6~36 months follow-up,all got fracture healing, and the healing time were 8~18 weeks. No infection, fat embolism, pulmonary embolism, deep venous thrombosis, coxa vara, cutting and other complications were found.Hip joint function according to Harris score was 88~96(92±3.6),and all patient got satisfaction. Conclusions PFNA internal fixation in treatment of elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fracture has the advantages of simple operation, less trauma, stable fixation, which is consistent with the principle of biological fixation. With less complications, patients can sit up.Early postoperative functional restoration can be abtained.
