Laparoscopic Subtotal Gastrectomy with Gastrojejunostomy and D2 Lymphadenectomy

2015
Laparoscopic surgical procedures have been success fully adopted for abdominal surgery because of their favorable effects on pain, postoperative recovery, pulmonary function, and incision-related complications. Laparoscopic resection for colorectal cancer has become a standard of care based on the positive results of several randomized trials. Despite early concerns about the adequacy of resection for oncologic indications, clinical studies have demonstrated that laparoscopic resections for abdominal malignancy can be performed with equivalent extent of resection compared to open resection. Clinical studies in pancreatic, cervical, endometrial, colorectal, prostate, and renal carcinoma have demonstrated that the laparoscopic approach yields similar margins and nodal clearance to open surgery. Survival rates are also similar to that seen in traditional open surgery.
