Formation and stability of intermetallic compounds upon mechanical alloying in a ball mill

Data is presented on the physical broadening of X-ray diffraction lines recorded upon studying pure powders of Ni and Fe and compositions based on these metals, depending on the mode of mechanical treatment (vibrational mill or planetary mill), its duration and ambient gas in which the mechanical alloying was carried out. The main features of the process of amorphization of Fe and Ni containing intermetallic compounds are discussed
