The Value of LAVA 3.0 T MRI in Left Gastric Vein with Liver Cirrhosis

2011
Objective To discuss the demonstration of left gastric vein with liver cirrhosis using the LAVA technology of 3.0T MR,and assess the relationship between the level of liver cirrhosis and the dilated degree of left gastric vein(LGV).Materials and Methods 40 liver cirrhosis and 20 volunteers received upper abdominal examination using the LAVA of 3.0T MRI technique to display the left gastric veins and measure its diameter with maximum intensity projection(MIP).Results LGV of 40 liver cirrhosis and 20 volunteers were clearly depicted.LGV of Child Pugh A class group and Child Pugh B,C-level group was noticeably widen in diameter than that of the normal group(P0.05);Left gastric vein diameter in the upper gastrointestinal bleeding group was widened than that of the non-bleeding group(P0.05);In the cirrhosis group, when LGV diameter ≥ 6 mm,the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding will increase(P0.05).Conclusion LGV can be clearly seen using the LAVA technique.Measuring the diameter of LGV in patients with cirrhosis can evaluate degree of liver function indirectly.LGV diameter enlarged obviously is the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. When LGV diameter ≥ 6 mm,the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding will increase.
