CARACTERIZAÇÃO DE NASCIDOS VIVOS COM MALFORMAÇÕES CONGÊNITAS DE UM HOSPITAL ESCOLA DO OESTE DO PARANÁ

2016
Congenital Malformations (CMF) have been gradually increasing in Brazil, being one of the important causes of infant mortality in the first year of life. The purpose of this study was to characterize the births due to congenital malformations in the West of Parana in a university hospital from 2009 to 2015. A quantitative, descriptive study of time series was developed, documentary research was conducted in the database of the hospital. The results of this study showed that of the total of 22,948 births occurred during the period, 312 children were born with some type of malformation, highlighting that 439 different types of CMF were found. Higher rates of CMF were found in the largest city of the 10th Regional Health Region of Parana (61.41%). Prevalence of CMF in the skeletal muscle group represented 33.49% (147) of all births.. In addition, regarding gestational age, 56.38% (168) of newborns with abnormalities were born between 37 and 41 weeks, with the majority of newborns weighing was between 2,500 and 3,499 grams. Regarding maternal age, 41.28% (123) women had between 18 and 24 years old, on the educational level, there was a prevalence of mothers with less than eight years of schooling (85 = 27.24%). These results can provide information about the outlook for CMF in newborns in HUOP, thus contributing to identify birth characteristics with this problem and to promote discussions about the child's health care needs that may reduce or minimize the incidence of congenital malformations.
