2020
The human-music relationship begins before birth. After birth, this relationship develops and gets richer through the environment. The earliest years of learning in human life constitute the basis for future learning. Based on this opinion, music educators have developed a variety of approaches about special music education that starts from an early age. Music Learning Theory, developed by an American music educator and researcher Edwin E. Gordon, is among the five best known and used music education approaches worldwide. Music Learning Theory differs from other music education approaches because of its starting with birth and is founded on the basis that music can be learned in the way that the mother tongue is acquired during infancy. The type of research is basic qualitative research. The aim of this research is to present the views of the experts about Music Learning Theory’s approach about early music learning of the 0-6 age group. For this purpose, a ‘semi-structured interview form’, which was prepared by the researchers, was applied to the Music Learning Theory instructors in Italy and Switzerland. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis. The opinions of different experts are that the Music Learning Theory 0-6 age group lessons contribute to the musical development of children, and that there are the effects of the lessons on the children along with the musical benefits, the benefits of doing group lessons and the problems encountered with different ages during the lesson.
