Development of New Mini Manual T/M with High Torque Capacity

Design optimization is an important driveline issue that originates in the limited design space. Especially for the mini segment vehicle, this packaging issue is more important. This paper outlined the process of design of new mini manual transaxle with high torque capacity. The requirement was to upgrade the input torque capacity of the transaxle from 104Nm to 120Nm. Despite the increase of the torque capacity, the packaging space and the manufacturing constraints should remain unchanged. The center distance of new transaxle with the input torque of l20Nm is same 60㎜ as that of old one with 104 Nm input torque. The normal center distance with the input torque of 120Nm is approximate 65㎜. The new design passed all the tests in both dynamo and vehicle and finally developed for mass production.
