Direct Assay And Popular Equations For Estimation Of Low-Density Lipoprotein – Cholestrol

Objective: Aim of the research was to utilize different equations to evaluate LDL-C estimates with LDL-C measured directly and discover most correct and consistent serum LDL-C measurement equation at diverse levels of triglyceride. Patients And Methods: This prospective study was carried out at Department of Pathology, Indus Medical College Hospital Tando Muhammad Khan for 6 months (January 2020 to June 2020). According to triglyceride (TG) levels, a total of 625 participants were categorised into three classes: >199 mg/dL, 150–199 mg/L and <150 mg/dL. Using Friedewald, Anandrajam, Chen, Hattori, Vujovic and modified Friedewald equations, LDL-C was estimated and compare with the concentration of LDL-C directly measured. Results: In most cases, except Hattori equation, calculated LDL-C value was elevated than LDL-C calculated directly, with a difference by negative mean. With equation of Friedewald (ICC=0.943), the correlation coefficient of intra – class between calculated and LDL-C measured directly was superior for all triglyceride levels in comparison to other known equations. With ICC above 0.75, the consistency was good for all equations, while reliability for equation of Friedewald in classes of all triglycerides was excellent, with ICC >0.9. By evaluating LDL-C in the standard range of TG (ICC=0.918) and borderline increased TG (ICC=0.914), the Hattori equation was stronger.          Conclusion: The calculated LDL-C with the help of acceptable equations may be substitute cheap method for calculating LDL-C in the situation when it is impractical to provide measurement directly.
