Radiative electron capture cross section for 26-MeV/u Ar18+ ions on a carbon target

Abstract The total cross section of radiative electron capture to the K shell of bare Ar ions has been measured and the value of (1.7 ± 0.2) × 10 −22 cm 2 is obtained. The theoretical value from a formula by Bethe-Salpeter, 1.96 × 10 −22 cm 2 , is about 15% larger than the present result.
