Trastornos neuropsiquiátricos en pacientes con VIH/SIDA

Background : antiretroviral therapy has been an effective response to HIV infection; however, as it is a chronic disease, some psychological variables can interfere with the adaptation to treatment and the quality of life of the patients. Objective : to identify neuropsychiatric disorders in patients with HIV/AIDS of two health districts of the municipality of Bayamo, Granma, Cuba. Methods : a descriptive cross-sectional observational study was carried out with 68 patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS treated at the "13 de Marzo" and "Rene Vallejo" polyclinics, between January 2018 and March 2019. Conventional and psychiatric tests were set to determine anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders and suicidal ideation. The results were analyzed according to descriptive statistics. Results : the studied patients showed anxiety as a trait and state with low (16,17 %) and high (42,64 %) levels respectively; 92,64 % did not show psychotic disorders; of the mental disorders studied, histrionic personality disorder (41,17 %) and paranoid personality disorder (30,88 %) were described as of major significance; 26,47 % presented suicidal ideation. Conclusions : the studied patients with HIV/AIDS had neuropsychiatric disorders with high state anxiety, personality disorders, without psychotic disorders.
