Design and Economic Evaluation of Fixed Dome Type Biogas Power Plant for Poultry Waste

2019
In the time of fourth industrial revolution the renewable energy resources like poultry waste can play a vital role to generate electricity. To manipulate this energy resource various pilot projects are being undertaken through Bangladesh. To facilitate this process a proposal with efficient design of a platform for a medium scale poultry farms (e.g. having 5000 utilizable birds) in order to generate electrical energy using poultry waste is analyzed in this work. Moreover, from an effective plant of a farm, the farmer can sell the existing power to the nearby utilities after fulfilling its own requirements, hence reducing the burden of national grid. Again, the fertilizer obtained as a byproduct in this process can also be a source of earning. The acceptance of the model on the basis of economic analysis has also been evaluated. It is found that if electricity is only used as the earning source then Net Present Value (NPV) is 15,08,542 BDT (17,869 USD) and payback period is 2.36 years and if both electricity and fertilizer is taken into consideration then they are 15,89,841 BDT (18,832 USD) and 2.30 years respectively. So, the proposed model can be considered as an acceptable one as the NPV in both cases is positive.
