Design and construction of cable stayed bridge at Bhavnagar Gujarat - a case study

This paper highlights the significance of proportioning of various components of a cable stayed bridge viz. Pylon, Stay Cable and Deck. Planners and designers of a cable stayed bridge have to foresee various aspects, such as aesthetics, life cycle cost, performance, maintenance, etc. while selecting basic configuration. In the design of the cable stayed bridge, the main objective is to produce an aesthetically appealing bridge which blends with its surroundings. Each component of the cable stayed bridge has different variants with respect to shape, size, numbers, material and special arrangement; designers have to face the most challenging tasks during selection of basic configuration and preliminary engineering.
