Fracture Development Zone Identification Based on the Second Generation Curvelet Transform

2016
Based on Curvelet transform, the author proposes a new method to predict faults and fracture zone. By studying and applying the multi-scale, multi-direction and strong localization characteristics of Curvelet transform, the method can produce seismic data with the different frequency bands and different directions through reconstructing different coefficients in the Curvelet domain, which can be transformed further into multi-direction coherence cubes via coherence technology. By analysis and comparison to seek for sub-data with the strongest variation, and match with the fracture zone and its strike trend, the faults and fracture zone can be predicted. Model data and real seismic data have proved the effectiveness of the method.
