A Novel Portable Radiation Detector Based on Monolithic LYSO Ring: A Simulation Study

Radiation monitoring has become critical nowadays when nuclear energy is more and more widely used. we hope to locate the radiation source with a time-saving detection equipment when a radiation leakage occurs. And the portability of radiation detection equipment will greatly restrict the efficiency of radiation detection. We propose a new type of radiation detection equipment and use GATE simulation to evaluate its performance. The simulation results show that this novel radiation detector is capable of distinguishing the azimuth and distance of 2 MBq gamma-ray source within 12m horizonal distance.
