Classification and evaluation of soils under hanumanko- PPA microwatershed in northern transitional zone of Karnataka
2012
Ten Typical pedons representing upland, midland and lowland physiographicunits in Hanumankoppa micro-watershed under Northern transitional zone of Karnataka selected and studied for their morphological, physical, chemical and physico-chemical properties of soils Based on soil characteristics, classified and evaluatedcapability for different land uses. The upland pedons (P2 and P5) showed the development of argillichorizon (Bt) and the pedons on uplands (P1, P3, and P4), midlands (P6 and P7) and lowlands (P8, P9 and P10)showed cambic horizon (Bw) and classified as Alfisols and Inceptisols, respectively. At family level, P2 and P5 classified as fine loamy, mixed, Isohyperthermic, Typic Haplustalfs and fine loamy, mixed, Isohyperthermic, Inceptic Haplustalfs, respectively. The lowlands (P8, P9 and P10), midlands (P6, P7) and uplands (P1, P3, and P4) classified as fine, mixed, Isohyperthermic Typic Hapluestepts. The major soil-site characteristics of the landscapes were matched with the criteria for land capability classification, the uplands (P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5),midlands (P6, P7) and lowlands (P8, P9 and P10) grouped under land capability sub-class III sf, IVs and IVw respectively.
