Ocular Manifestations of Infectious Diseases

2017
Many systemic infectious diseases have eye involvement. Bacterial, parasitic, viral, and fungal infections can all have associated eye pathology. Many times diagnosis of the ocular disease is an essential clue in the diagnosis of the systemic infection. Similarly, understanding the possible ophthalmic pathology can help the pediatrician and pediatric infectious disease doctor recognize and prevent any blinding complications of a systemic infection. In this chapter we discuss many infections with concurrent eye pathology as well as the ophthalmic manifestations, systemic findings, and management.
