The relationship of Thr663Ala polymorphism in α-epithelial sodium channel with transient ischemic attack in Chinese population

Objective To investigate the association of Thr663Ala polymorphism in α-epithelial sodium channel(αENaC)with transient ischemic attack(TIA)in Chinese population.Methods 99 patients with cerebral hemorrhage and 104 controls in China were screened by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and corresponding probe hybridization.Results Genotype frequencies of Thr663Ala polymorphism in αENaC were in keeping with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.The prevalence of ThrThr,ThrAla,and AlaAla genotypes were 21.21%,57.58% and 21.21% in TIA patients;and 31.73%,42.31% and 25.96% in controls,respectively.The 663Ala allele frequencies were 50.00% in TIA patients and 47.12% in controls.No significant differences in both genotypes and alleles of Thr663Ala polymorphism were observed between two groups.In addition,similar distribution of this polymorphism was found in patients with ischemic stroke,hemorrhagic stroke and TIA.Conclusion Thr663Ala polymorphism in αENaC is not related to TIA or cerebrovascular disease type in Chinese population.
